  1. 1. Dietary Patterns : Identification and Health Implications in the Swedish Population

    Författare :Erika Ax; Per Sjögren; Agneta Andersson; Wulf Becker; Berit Lilienthal Heitmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Dietary Pattern; Dietary Recommendations; Dietary Survey; Environmental Contaminants; Healthy Diet Indicator; Heatlhy dietary pattern; Low-Carbohydrate; Mediterranean diet; Nutritional Biomarkers; Obesity; Overweight; Principal Component Analysis; Prostate Cancer; Sweden; Traditional dietary pattern; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Nutrition; Nutrition;

    Sammanfattning : We eat foods not nutrients. What is more, we eat them in combinations. Consequently, capturing our complex food habits is likely an advantage in nutrition research. The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was therefore to investigate dietary patterns in the Swedish population –nutrient intakes, nutritional biomarkers and health aspects. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Low Protein Diets and Their Effects on Brown Adipose Tissue

    Författare :Erik Lindsund; Jan Nedergaard; Eva Blomstrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Obesity; Protein diets; Dietary protein; Brown adipose tissue; Brown fat; BAT; UCP10; Uncoupeling protein 1; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience; fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a rising health issue and has been linked with a relative decrease of dietary protein, which promotes higher food intake. Brown adipose tissue is a heat-producing, energy-wasting organ that has been shown to be enhanced by a low protein diet. However, the mechanism of how this occurs is largely unknown. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Dietary Fatty Acids and Inflammation : Observational and Interventional Studies

    Sammanfattning : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dietary, Pharmacological and Environmental Effects on Brown Adipose Tissue

    Författare :Erik Lindsund; Tore Bengtsson; Jan Nedergaard; Karsten Kristiansen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Obesity; brown adipose tissue; uncoupling protein 1; moderate cold exposure; calorimetry; thyroxine; dietary protein; thermic effect of food; diet-induced thermogenesis; adrenergic stimulation; mice; physiology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is a common health issue; over 12 % of the adult world population have obesity. Obesity has many co-morbidities including cardo-vascular diseases and diabetes. Obesity is the result of chronic positive energy balance, eating too much and expending too little. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nutrition in the second year of life. Effects of different milk compositions on dietary intakes, growth and metabolism

    Författare :Johan Svahn; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein intake; nitrogen; iron fortification; iron intake; growth; fatty acids; fat metabolism; fat intake; energy intake; dietary intake; blood lipids; cow´s milk; cholesterol; Amino acids; children; protein metabolism.; Pediatrics; Pediatri;

    Sammanfattning : In the diet for young children, whole cow´s milk is the major contributor of calories, protein and saturated fat, but it supplies little iron and polyunsaturated fat. Although several recommendations exist for the composition of formula, recommendations for the composition of milk for young children are lacking. LÄS MER
