  1. 1. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Författare :Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Alpha-2 Adrenergic Receptors and Signal Transduction : Effector Output in Relation to G-Protein Coupling and Signalling Cross-Talk

    Författare :Johnny Näsman; Peter Evans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; Adrenergic; receptor; G-protein; adenylyl cyclase; cAMP; calcium; cross-talk; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The alpha-2 adrenergic receptor (α2-AR) subfamily includes three different subtypes, α2A-, α2B- and α2C-AR, all believed to exert their function through heterotrimeric Gi/o-proteins. The present study was undertaken in order to investigate subtype differences in terms of cellular response and to explore other potential signalling pathways of α2-ARs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. β-adrenergic stimulation of VEGF gene expression : intracellular signalling pathways

    Författare :Magnus J. Fredriksson; Georg Breier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, the intracellular signalling pathway mediating ß-adrenergic stimulation of the expression of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene was investigated.VEGF is an activator of angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, and is considered to be a major regulator of both physiologically and pathologically related angiogenesis, as well as being essential for development of the vascular system. 4. 4. Adrenergic stimulation of glucose uptake in brown adipocytes

    Författare :Ekaterina Chernogubova; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Samuel Cushman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to investigate adrenergically stimulated glucose uptake in brown adipose tissue (BAT) with the focus on receptor subtypes and intracellular signalling pathways. As a model system, we used primary cultured brown adipocytes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Författare :Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model.
