Sammanfattning : The present dissertation deals with runology from the perspective of the history of science and ideas. Its point of departure is the controversial question among runologists of whether or not runes were used for magical purposes and places this question in atradition of magic writing, with its roots in early antiquity (when written language emerges in Mesopotamia), and in thoughts about symbolism, whose origins are lost to usin the mists of our prehistoric past. Sammanfattning : The study deals with the life stories of six women and four men who were born in Germany and who now live in Sweden. Its purpose is to examine the histories of those who grew up in Germany during and after the Nazi era, their descriptions of their lives and experiences during childhood and adolescence, and how they regard their encounters with Swedish people, and the ways in which these encounters have affected their ways of describing the growth of their attachment to this country. Sammanfattning : The study examines the character and development of anti-Jewish thinking as manifested in public discourse in Sweden in the post-war era. Using newspapers, periodicals and other publications as source material, the study seeks to uncover the continuity, discontinuity and renewal of anti-Jewish discourse by analysing the reactions to the assassination of the Swedish UN envoy Folke Bernadotte in Israel in 1948, the impact of the Holocaust on attitudes towards antisemitism, Jews and Israel during the 1950s and 1960s, the emergence of anti-Zionism and radical criticism of Israel from the late 1960s onwards, the attitudes towards Holocaust-denial propaganda in the beginning of the 1980s and the public debate on the Lebanon War in 1982. Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with "Samfundet Nordens Frihet" ['The Association Scandinavia’s Freedom'], its magazine with the same name, Nordens Frihet, and the circle that constituted the magazine’s editorial committee.
