1. Defining moments : a cultural biography of Jane Eyre
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the ways in which various practices, such as novel-writing, publishing, book-reviewing, reading for pleasure, adaptation and studying English literature, have produced Jane Eyre’s complex cultural profile. The organizing principle of the study is Paul du Gay, Stuart Hall et al’s ‘circuit of culture’, which identifies five key processes or ‘moments’ as being productive of the meanings that a cultural artefact or text comes to possess. Sammanfattning : This study explores the biography of spoils through analysing cases of cultural looting by Gustavus Adolphus and Carl Gustaf Wrangel during their seventeenth century military campaigns. Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis is twofold: to examine literary biography as literary text and, on the basis of my findings, to adopt a reasonable perspective on the theoretical debate about the fictionality of such biographies.
