    Sammanfattning : To provide a valid consent to – or refusal of – medical intervention, a patient must be legally capable to decide. This dissertation evaluates and compares when the assessment of mental abilities to refuse – or consent to – somatic medical intervention is required in England, Russia and Sweden, and what criteria must be applied to assess the ability to decide about somatic medical interventions in these legal orders.     Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of two articles and a policy analysis of the document SOU (Swedish Government Official Report), laying the ground for psychiatric reform, deals with everyday life experiences among 18 close relatives of persons with mental disabilities.     Sammanfattning : A comprehensive understanding is lacking of the experiences persons with acquired physical disabilities have of changes in their engagement in occupations and of the conditions influencing these experiences Furthermore, little is known about the experiences these people have of the rehabilitation process and whether the rehabilitation services satisfy their needs.
