   Sammanfattning : The Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal axis (HPA-axis) with its end product cortisol mediates the physiological response to stress thereby promoting mobilization of energy. The cortisol levels follow a diurnal rhythm with a distinct awakening response. LÄS MER

   Sammanfattning : The aims of the thesis were to study (1) day care and school education of Finnish migrant children in Sweden, with respect to verbal, cognitive and identity development, (2) language as a tool of thought and the role of bilingualism in children's cognitive development, primarily with respect to Finnish children in Sweden, and (3) ethnic and individual identity of Finnish children and adolescents in Sweden and Finland.    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on noise recordings and health evaluations carried out at preschools in the northern part of Sweden. Sound level recordings were made on individuals and by use of stationary devices in dining rooms and play halls. Health evaluations were based on ratings by use of questionnaires and by analyses of cortisol. LÄS MER
