  1. 1. Mathematical Reasoning : In physics and real-life context

    Författare :Helena Johansson; Mats Andersson; Jesper Boesen; Morten Blomhøj; Institutionen för matematiska vetenskaper Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of four papers in which mathematical reasoning is examined in various contexts, in which mathematics is an integral part. It is known from previous studies that a focus on rote learning and procedural mathematical reasoning hamper students’ learning of mathematics. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Grafisk och algebraisk representation : Gymnasieelevers förståelse av linjära funktioner

    Författare :Annika Pettersson; Igor Gachkov; Kerstin Pettersson; Lovisa Sumpter; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematics education; linear function; graphic representation; scale; concept image; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns upper secondary students’ understanding of algebraic and graphic representation of linear functions. Components of the students’ concept images, so-called ‘concept elements’, were studied as a way to capture their understanding. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Inget klöver utan matematik : En studie av matematik i yrkesutbildning och yrkesliv

    Sammanfattning : Syftet med avhandlingen är att öka förståelsen för aspekter som inverkar på relationen mellan yrkeselevers kunskaper och de kunskaper som behövs i yrkeslivet. Detta görs genom att undersöka olika aktörers perspektiv på yrkeslivets behov av  matematikkunskaper, matematikundervisning på yrkesprogram och utformningen av läroplanen Gy11. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Difficult to read or difficult to solve? : The role of natural language and other semiotic resources in mathematics tasks

    Författare :Anneli Dyrvold; Magnus Österholm; Ewa Bergqvist; Johan Lithner; Candia Morgan; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; mathematics education; multisemiotics; task text; difficulty; mathematical reading ability; didactics of mathematics; matematikdidaktik; word; image; symbol; mathematical notation; cohesion; Mathematics; Matematik; Pedagogik; Education; Linguistics; Lingvistik;

    Sammanfattning : When students solve mathematics tasks, the tasks are commonly given as written text, usually consisting of natural language, mathematical notation and different types of images. This is one reason why reading and interpreting such texts are important parts of being mathematically proficient, at least within the school context. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On Aspects of Mathematical Reasoning : Affect and Gender

    Författare :Lovisa Sumpter; Johan Lithner; Markku Hannula; Umeå universitet; []
