    Författare :Helena Johansson; Mats Andersson; Jesper Boesen; Morten Blomhøj; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school; Creative mathematical reasoning; Descriptive statistics; Differential item functioning; Figurative context; Imitative reasoning; Mathematical Reasoning Requirements; Mathematics tasks; National tests; Physics tasks; Real-life context; T-test; Upper secondary school;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a compilation of four papers in which mathematical reasoning is examined in various contexts, in which mathematics is an integral part. It is known from previous studies that a focus on rote learning and procedural mathematical reasoning hamper students’ learning of mathematics. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : By analysing and expanding upon mathematical reasoning requirements in physics tests, this licentiate thesis aims to contribute to the research studying how students’ knowledge in mathematics influence their learning of physics. A sample of physics tests from the Swedish National Test Bank in Physics was used as data, together with information of upper secondary students’ scores and grades on the tests. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Assessing mathematical creativity : comparing national and teacher-made tests, explaining differences and examining impact

    Sammanfattning : Students’ use of superficial reasoning seems to be a main reason for learning difficulties in mathematics. It is therefore important to investigate the reasons for this use and the components that may affect students’ mathematical reasoning development. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On Aspects of Mathematical Reasoning : Affect and Gender

    Författare :Lovisa Sumpter; Johan Lithner; Markku Hannula; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; affect; beliefs; gender; mathematical reasoning; problem solving; upper secondary school; Other mathematics; Övrig matematik; matematikdidaktik; didactics of mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores two aspects of mathematical reasoning: affect and gender. I started by looking at the reasoning of upper secondary students when solving tasks. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mathematics and mathematics education - two sides of the same coin : creative reasoning in university exams in mathematics

    Författare :Ewa Bergqvist; Johan Lithner; Peter Nyström; Christer Bergsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Polynomial convexity; Positive currents; Jensen measures; Mathematical reasoning; assessment; university level; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : Avhandlingen består av två ganska olika delar som ändå har en del gemensamt. Del A är baserad på två artiklar i matematik och del B är baserad på två matematikdidaktiska artiklar. De matematiska artiklarna utgår från ett begrepp som heter polynomkonvexitet. LÄS MER
