    Sammanfattning : This dissertation focuses especially on the late Viking period and the early Middle Ages. Special emphasis is laid on the town of Sigtuna and the three provinces of Tiundaland, Attundaland and Fjädrundaland (the territory now known as Uppland). The uneven distribution over gender and socioeconomic groups is partly explained by factors at both the individual and family levels, but sociocultural structures at the municipality level may contribute with yet unrecognised associations. Ten sibling pairs, aged four to nine years, have been followed in their homes during a six-month period with media ethnographic methods.
