Sammanfattning : The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the occurrence of Enlightenment ideas in the central Northern part of Sweden during the 18th century, focussing on a carefully chosen set of characters: one bishop and three senior lecturers at the gymnasium of Härnösand, in the province of Ångermanland. Sammanfattning : This thesis, Fashion and the household: The formation of media and gender in 18th Century Swedish periodicals and pamphlets, deals with the formation of media and gender in 18th Century Sweden using fashion and the household as themes of discussion and gender as an analytical category. The material used consists of periodicals, small prints and series of pamphlets published from the 1730s to the 1770s in Sweden, and one engraving showing five housewives beating a husband on his bare buttocks printed in 1755. Sammanfattning : The thesis analyzes the spiritual teaching developed by Ellen Key, which she called Life Faith (Swedish: Livstro), situating it in the broader history of religions and concerns characteristic of Key’s time. Specifically, it investigates Key’s interest in Buddhism and Theosophy by drawing on recent scholarship on alternative and esoteric spiritual movements in the late 1800s to contextualize her ideas, demonstrating how Key's Life Faith was nourished by German idealism, Romanticism, and the so-called Oriental Renaissance.
