Sammanfattning : This thesis examines women’s upward class mobility in a Swedish context, with particular focus on notions of class, gender, race, Swedishness and sexuality. The thesis analyses qualitative interviews with 16 upwardly mobile women. In the analysis the women’s lived experiences, contextualized through structural processes, are in focus. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate how class was constructed linguistically in Svensk Damtidning (Swedish Woman's Magazine) at the beginning of the 20th century. 3. From feminism to class politics : the rise and decline of women's politics in Reykjavík 1908-1922
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this dissertation is to seek answers to three questions: 1) Why did it take so much longer for women than men to win the vote? 2) Why did it take women so long to be elected in any numbers to national legislatures?, and 3) What has been the political significance of women's entry into national legislatures? The answers are sought by examining an aspect of the development of parties ignored by most political scientists, namely the relationship between women's suffrage, party politics and patriarchal power. An empirical study on Iceland is used to examine this aspect in detail. LÄS MER
4. Sick of Work? : Questions of Class, Gender and Self-Rated Health
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines two aspects of social inequalities in health with three empirical studies that are based on the Swedish Level of Living survey (LNU): The relationship between accumulated occupational class positions during adulthood and health and the class-specific nature of gender differences in health. Previous research continuously finds that there are health differences by class and gender, but less is known about the extent to which accumulated class experiences in adulthood are related to health or how gender differences vary by class. While the majority of the movement’s adherents still belong to marginalized groups in Indian society, middle-class Pentecostals are growing in number and changing the dynamics and identity of the movement.
