  1. 11. Transport and release of insulin granules during biphasic insulin secretion

    Författare :Rosita Ivarsson; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; granule transport; Myosin 5a; Cyclic AMP; NADPH; Motor protein; Insulin secretion; Cytoskeleton;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose-evoked insulin secretion exhibits two phases: The first phase represents exocytosis of insulin granules situated at the plasma membrane, whereas the second phase reflects insulin release from granules continuously recruited to the plasma membrane. This thesis investigates different aspects of phasic insulin secretion, with the specific aims to elucidate the possible contribution of insulin granule transport, as well as to study the influence of the nucleotides cAMP and NADPH to this process. 2. 12. Insulin Signalling and Regulation of Protein Kinase B in Adipocytes

    Författare :Olga Göransson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; PDK1; PKB; diabetes; insulin; adipocyte;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes, an increasingly common disorder. The cause of insulin resistance is supposedly failures in the processes used by insulin to signal to the interior of its target cells. These failing steps are still unknown, most probably because of incomplete knowledge of how the insulin signals are transmitted. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Insulinogenic Effects of Milk- and Other Dietary Proteins, Mechanisms and metabolic implications

    Författare :Mikael Nilsson; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Näringslära; Nutrition; Type 2 diabetes; Isolated islets; Incretin hormones; Food proteins; Amino acids; Insulin index; Glycaemic index; Hyperinsulinaemia; Insulin; Blood glucose; Milk; Whey;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome (type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypertension, atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, dyslipidaemia, and hyperinsulinaemia), is increasing in prevalence world-wide. The progression of this syndrome proceeds through a step-wise deterioration of metabolic events where deterioration of insulin sensitivity appears to have a key role in a ?vicious circle? of hyperinsulinaemia/hyperglycaemia and insulin resistance. 4. 14. Polycystic ovary syndrome : A study on factors of potential impact on body fat and carbohydrate metabolism

    Författare :Gianluca Gennarelli; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; polycystic ovary syndrome; androgens; insulin; insulin resistance; body fat distribution; hypoglycaemia; adrenal; cortisol; ACTH; leptin; gestational diabetes mellitus; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; obstetrik och gynekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate some factors underlying the metabolic, anthropometric, and endocrine abnormalities of women with the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).An iv insulin tolerance test (0.15 IU bolus) showed substantially preserved glucose counterregulation in women with PCOS (n=18). 5. 15. Proinsulin and Insulin Sensitivity as Predictors of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Coronary Heart Disease : Clinical Epidemiological Studies with up to 27 Years of Follow-Up

    Författare :Björn Zethelius; Björn Fagerberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; diabetes; coronary heart disease; insulin; proinsulin; prognosis; mortality; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Defects in insulin secretion and insulin action are the major abnormalities in the development of Type 2 diabetes. Hyperinsulinemia is a risk marker for Type 2 diabetes and according to some, but not in all studies also for coronary heart disease (CHD). Conventional insulin assays measure immunoreactive insulin including proinsulin-like molecules. LÄS MER
