    Författare :Marju Orho-Melander; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mutation; GYS2; GYS1; glycogen synthase; glycogen; insulin resistance; hypoglycaemia; liver glycogen synthase deficiency; glycogen storage disease type 0; Type 2 diabetes; metabolic syndrome; expression; chromosome 19; 19q13.3; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Effective insulin-stimulated storage of excess glucose after a meal, and its rapid mobilisation in the fasting state provide basis of glucose homeostasis. Glycogen is the macromolecular storage form of glucose and glycogen synthase (GS) is the rate-limiting enzyme in glycogen synthesis. Skeletal muscle and liver are the major depots of glycogen. 2. 2. Diabetes under seven (DU7). Aspects of glycaemic control, hypoglycaemia, nutrition and physical activity in children younger than seven years with type 1 diabetes mellitus

    Författare :Frida Sundberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; preschool children; type 1 diabetes; glycaemic control; hypoglycaemia; nutrition; physical activity; health-related quality of life;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The aim of this thesis is to elucidate the specific challenges in insulin treatment for children younger than seven years with type 1 diabetes, with a focus on glycaemic control, hypoglycaemia, nutrition and physical activity. Methods: There were 24 children younger than seven years with type 1 diabetes and 27 healthy children from Gothenburg in the observational study that forms the basis of this thesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Impact of Bariatric Surgery on Glucose Homeostasis

    Författare :Niclas Abrahamsson; Britt Eden Engström; Jan Eriksson; Magnus Sundbom; Neil Gerard Docherty; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypoglycaemia; Gastric Bypass surgery; Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch DS ; NT-ProBNP; Continuous glucose measuring system CGMS ; GLP-1-analog; glucose variability; MAGE; CONGA; counter regulation; incretin; Heart Rate Variability; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity has grown to epidemic proportions, and in lack of efficient life-style and medical treatments, the bariatric surgeries are performed in rising numbers. The most common surgery is the Gastric Bypass (GBP) surgery, with the Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (DS) as an option for the most extreme cases with a BMI>50 kg/m2. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Peripheral Hypoglycaemic Neuropathy in Type 1 Diabetic Rats : Morphologic and Metabolic Studies

    Författare :Reza Jamali; Simin Mohseni; Claes Hildebrand; Håkan Aldskugius; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes Mellitu; Hypoglycaemia; Neuropathy; Morphology; Microdialysis; Glucose level; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hyperglycaemia caused by insulin deficiency is believed to play a major role in the de-velopment of neuropathy in diabetic patients. The clinical and pathological features of diabetic neuropathy vary considerably, although sensory and autonomic dysfunctions are the most common characteristics. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Diabetes mellitus and acute coronary syndromes. Prognosis and risk factors

    Författare :Ann-Marie Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :diabetes; prognosis; hyperglycaemia; hypoglycaemia; risk-factors; morbidity; mortality; unstable coronary syndrome; unstable angina pectoris; acute myocardial infarction;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: the aims of the thesis were: - To investigate the prognostic influence of diabetes on short- and long-term mortality after an episode of unstable coronary disease - To evaluate the association between glycometabolic parameters on admission and during hospitalization and the 2 year mortality risk among diabetic patients with unstable coronary disease - To investigate the influence of diabetes on treatment and outcome in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) - To determine long-term morbidity and mortality after hospitalization for unstable coronary disease in patients with and without diabetes Diabetes was associated with higher mortality: We investigated an unselected series of 4,341 patients with unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction, of which 722 (17%) had diabetes. Diabetes was associated with increased mortality during initial hospitalization (10. LÄS MER
