Sammanfattning : The experience of childbirth is an important life event for women, which may follow them throughout life. The overall aim of this thesis has been to describe and analyse these experiences from the women's perspective as well as the encounter between the woman and the midwife, and the possibility that a birth plan might improve women's experience of childbirth. 3. Acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) : Aspects of diagnosis, aetiology and sequelae epidemiology and prevention
Sammanfattning : This long-period (1970-1997) longitudinal clinical and epidemiologic study elucidated risk factors, diagnosis and causative agents of acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), more importantly Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng) and Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct), and analysed the occurrence of late sequelae, particularly ectopic pregnancy (EP), and prevention.Totally 2574 patients (age 14-55 years) were hospitalised and treated for PID. 4. Vaginal prolapse – clinical outcomes and patients’ perspectives : a study using quantitative and qualitative methods
Sammanfattning : Background: Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a relatively common condition. In Sweden, the overall estimated prevalence of POP in the female population is 31% and the prevalence of symptomatic prolapse is 8–15%. The prevalence of POP increases with age. The lifetime risk of undergoing pelvic floor surgery is estimated to 11%. LÄS MER
5. Genuine Caring in Caring for the Genuine : Childbearing and high risk as experienced by women and midwives
Sammanfattning : The experience of pregnancy and childbirth is a central life event with special implications for women at high risk. This thesis describes the meaning of pregnancy, childbirth and midwifery care in four qualitative interview studies based on the lifeworld theory. Women were interviewed during pregnancy and within one week after childbirth. LÄS MER
