  1. 1. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Haiyan Li; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; IDDM2.; Insulin gene VNTR; HLA; IDDM1; mixed type 1 2; Mixed type 1 type 2 diabetes families; LADA; GADabs; Autoantibodies against GAD65; Type 1 diabetes; Type 2 diabetes; diabetology; secreting systems; sekretion; diabetologi; Endokrinologi;

    Sammanfattning : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. LÄS MER

    Författare :Siti Maisharah Sheikh Ghadzi; Maria C. Kjellsson; Mats O. Karlsson; Sandra Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacometric; type 2 diabetes mellitus; impaired glucose tolerance; prediabetes; anti-diabetes drug development; insulin; glucose; natural diabetes disease progression; lifestyle intervention; short-term provocation; long-term effect; glucose homeostasis; glucose and insulin regulation; weight; dropout; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 3. 3. Congenital Heart Disease, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

    Författare :Anna Björk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Congenital Heart Disease; Diabetes Mellitus; Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus; Mortality; Morbidity;

    Sammanfattning : Worldwide, 1% of all live born children are born with a congenital heart disease (CHD) and currently >95% reach adulthood due to better diagnostics and medical care. At the same time, Diabetes Mellitus (DM), type 1 (T1DM) and type 2 (T2DM), is increasing worldwide. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes is recognized by hyperglycaemia and polyuria. Complications, reduced quality of life and staggering health-care costs are all derived from the disease. Two subclasses of diabetes are Type 1 diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). LÄS MER
