  1. 16. Acute pancreatitis, from local defense to remote organ injury

    Författare :Hamid Akbarshahi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute pancreatitis; heparan sulfate; damage associated molecular patterns; toll-like receptor4; MyD88; IRF-3; acute lung injury; macrophages; transforming growth factor-beta; Smad;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammatory disease of the pancreas. Acute abdominal pain is the most common symptom. Pancreatic injury is mild in 80% of patients, who recover without complications. The remaining patients have a severe disease with local and systemic complications such as acute lung injury (ALI). 2. 17. Harnessing the immunoregulatory capacity of single-stranded oligonucleotides to modulate innate immunity

    Författare :Aleksandra Dondalska; Anna-Lena Spetz; Jenny Hallgren Martinsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; single-stranded oligonucleotides; Toll-like receptors; influenza; respiratory syncytial virus; dendritic cell; mast cell; virus infection; inflammation; itch; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : As the first line of defense, the innate immune system is exceptionally efficacious against invading pathogens but must be tightly regulated to avoid immune-related pathogenesis. Accordingly, the innate immune system recognizes highly conserved components associated with infections and damaged cells using a limited number of pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs), which are differentially expressed across cell types. 3. 18. Preterm and term cervical ripening : studies on CRH, HMGB1, toll-like receptors, cytokines and matrix metalloproteinases

    Författare :Aurelija Dubicke; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Cervical fibroblasts; cervical ripening; cervix; chemokines; cytokines; CRH; HMGB1; interleukin; labor; preterm; preterm labor; matrix metalloproteinases; pregnancy; PPROM; Tolllike receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Preterm birth (PTB) is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Despite the existing treatment, the frequency of PTB has not changed in the past thirty years. Incomplete understanding of the biological and pathophysiological mechanisms underlying preterm delivery is the major obstacle to preventing PTB. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer

    Författare :Susanne Lager; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue; amino acids; cytokines; developmental programming; free fatty acids; insulin resistance; interleukin-6; lipoprotein lipase; nutrient transport; placenta; toll-like receptor 4;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Stroke recovery activity-dependent mechanisms

    Författare :Miriana Quattromani; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke recovery; Photothrombosis; Enriched environment; Bioluminescence imaging; Toll-like receptor 2; Microglia; Neurons; Extracellular matrix; Perineuronal nets; Aggrecan; Proteases; Parvalbumin; Resting-state functional connectivity;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is the leading cause of disability in developed countries and among the major causes of death worldwide. During a stroke, neurons deprived of their normal metabolic substrates cease to function in seconds and show signs of structural damage after only a few minutes which result in the impairment of sensory and motor function.
