Sammanfattning : Information and communication technologies are not value-neutral. I examine two domains, public health surveillance and sustainability, in five papers covering: (i) the design and development of a software package for computer-assisted outbreak detection; (ii) a workflow for using simulation models to provide policy advice and a list of challenges for its practice; (iii) an analysis of design documents from three smart home projects presenting intersecting visions of sustainability; (iv) an analysis of EU-financed projects dealing with sustainability and ICT; (v) an analysis of the consequences of design choices when creating surveillance technologies. Sammanfattning : With its abundance of maps, place names, and landscapes, and with titles like Inland and Landscape with Landscape, Gerald Murnane's fiction exemplifies the dominance of land in Australian literature. Yet, Murnane's fiction differs from most "landscape fiction" in that it depicts an Australia that despite its history of exploration has not yet been fully discovered. LÄS MER
4. Changing the servicescape : The influence of music, self-disclosure and eye gaze on service encounter experience and approach-avoidance behavior
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to investigate and understand the effect of a servicescape’s ambient and social conditions on consumers’ service encounter experience and their approach/avoidance behavior in a retail context. In three papers, with a total sample of over 1600 participants (including 550 actual consumers) and seven experiments, the author investigates the effect of music (ambient stimuli), employees’ self-disclosure (verbal social stimuli) and employees’ gazing behavior (nonverbal social stimuli) on consumers’ service encounter experience and approach/avoidance behavior in a retail store. Sammanfattning : This PhD dissertation explores how the normal is made and remade in the medical practice of plastic surgery. The thesis also question what "the normal" is that is remade. The empirical field is breast reconstruction, breast reduction, and burn injuries. LÄS MER
