21. Influence of host genetics on innate immunity and susceptibility to urinary tract infection
Sammanfattning : It has been known for a long time that the clinical manifestations of urinary tract infections (UTI) differ markedly between individuals, ranging from a sometimes beneficial, asymptomatic state to life threatening infections. This variability in clinical manifestation can be explained in part by the arsenal of virulence factors of the bacteria but the predisposition of the patient is equally important. LÄS MER
22. Toll-like receptor-induced cytokine secretion by human monocytes in healthy donors and septic patients assessed at the single cell level
Sammanfattning : Following the ligation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) by bacterial-derived signature molecules, innate immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils initiate the inflammatory process by secreting chemokines and cytokines with a wide range of immunomodulatory effects. Under normal conditions, these mediators work to compartmentalize the inflammatory process and eradicate the intruder, while simultaneously recruiting more immune cells to the site of infection. 23. The role and mechanism of ubiquitin system in innate immune regulation
Sammanfattning : Pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) include the cell surface or endosomal membrane localized Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and the cytoplasmic PRRs such as RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs) and cytoplasmic DNA receptors (CDRs). Triggering of PRRs culminates in the transcriptional induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferons (IFNs) that coordinate protection against pathogens but require tight control to avert inflammatory diseases. 24. Polymorphism in pattern recognition receptor genes in pigs
Sammanfattning : The mammalian immune defense consists of two systems, which are interconnected and co-operate to provide host defense. The innate immune system is always active and detects and responds to non-self without delay. The adaptive immune system has a lag phase, but is more specific and has got a memory. LÄS MER
25. Dysregulated mucosal immune responses in microscopic colitis patients
Sammanfattning : Microscopic colitis (MC), comprising collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC) is a common cause of chronic watery diarrhea. The diagnosis relies on typical histopathological changes observed upon microscopic examination. LÄS MER
