1. Functional Recovery after Experimental Stroke in Mice- Involvement of Enriched Environment, BDNF and Cell Genesis
Sammanfattning : Stroke is caused by an obstruction of blood flow to a part of the brain, resulting in brain damage. Stroke is the third most common cause of death in the industrialized world, and the primary cause of adult-onset disability. LÄS MER
2. Enriched, task specific therapy in the chronic phase after stroke
Sammanfattning : Recovery and improvement of motor functions and abilities after stroke depend on the spontaneous recovery process but also on the reorganization of neural mechanisms. In animal studies, an Enriched Environment (EE) has proved to be an effective intervention for boosting brain plasticity and recovery after stroke. LÄS MER
3. Designing guidance along audio-haptically augmented paths in a city environment
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis is to show in a case study how it is possible to inform, with Activity Theory, the design and evaluation of a pedestrian navigation system that uses audio-tactile feedback. The case study consists of an iterative design process that results in a tourist guide application used in a mobile phone. LÄS MER
4. Virtual Reality for Enriched Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients with Spatial Neglect : Diagnostics and the Rehabilitation Effect on Spatial Attention and Neuronal Activity
Sammanfattning : Background: Approximately a third of all stroke patients develop spatial neglect, a debilitating symptom associated with poor outcome. Spatial neglect is clinically defined as a deficit in processing and responding to stimuli presented on the contralesional side of the body, or the space surrounding that side of the body. LÄS MER
5. A room designed for caring : Experiences from an evidence-based designed intensive care environment
Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to examine and evaluate if and how an intensive care unit (ICU) room, which had been designed using the principles of evidence-based design (EBD), impacted the safety, wellbeing and caring for patients, their family members and staff. Methods: Paper I explored the nursing staff experiences of working in an EBD intensive care patient room through 13 interviews that were analysed by qualitative content analysis.
