    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vasoconstriction; RT-PCR; receptor characterization; potentiation; NPY Y1 receptor; NPY; mitogenesis; hypertension; human arteries; forearm blood flow; cell culture; antisense oligodeoxynucleotides; BIBP3226; vasodilatation.; Physiology; Fysiologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The aims of the present thesis were to examine neuropeptide Y (NPY) responses in different human and guinea pig vascular beds and in cultured human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and to characterize, with different NPY agonists and the specific NPY Y1 receptor antagonist (BIBP3226), the NPY receptors involved. NPY-induced strong and potent contractions in human cerebral and subcutaneous arteries and in guinea pig basilar arteries. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hypoxia inducible factor-1α in renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Anders Lidgren; Börje Ljungberg; Torgny Rasmuson; Kjell Grankvist; Anders Bergh; Per-Uno Malmström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; renal cell carcinoma; hypoxia; RT-PCR; angiogenesis; western blot; tissue microarray; protein; mRNA; HIF-1 alpha; GLUT-1; survival; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1α in Renal Cell Carcinoma Departments of Surgical and Perioperative Sciences, Urology and Andrology; Radiation Sciences, Oncology; Medical Biosciences, Pathology; and Medical Biosciences, Clinical Chemistry, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for approximately 2-3% of all human cancers. A distinguished feature of RCC is vascularisation and among the three dominating RCC types conventional RCC (cRCC) generally is more vascularised than papillary RCC (pRCC) and chromophobe RCC (chRCC). 3. 3. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Författare :Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identification of abnormally expressed genes in skeletal muscle contributing to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes

    Författare :Xudong Huang; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; gene expression; high-fat intake; RT-PCR; mitochondrial genes; cathepsin L; Shc; IRS-2; IRS-1; GS; cDNA differential display; Insulin resistance; type 2 diabetes; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic defects of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes can result from changes in gene expression and protein functions due to genetic and environmental influences. The aim of this study was to identify abnormally expressed genes associated with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, and further to test whether possible defects are inherited or acquired. 5. 5. Epidermal keratinocytes studied by X-ray microanalysis, with special reference to contact dermatitis : In vivo and in vitro studies of functional changes in human cells

    Författare :Anders Grängsjö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; X-ray microanalysis; elements; epidermis; keratinocytes; proliferation; cell membrane damage; Ki67; irritants; intracellular elemental content; keratinocyte culture; HaCaT; NHEK; RT-PCR; immunohistochemistry; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : By determining the intracellular elemental content, information can be obtained on the physiological status of cells. The cellular content of sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, chloride, potassium and calcium can be indicative for proliferation, cell membrane damage or cell death. LÄS MER
