    Författare :Torun Nilsson-Bergdahl; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vasoconstriction; RT-PCR; receptor characterization; potentiation; NPY Y1 receptor; NPY; mitogenesis; hypertension; human arteries; forearm blood flow; cell culture; antisense oligodeoxynucleotides; BIBP3226; vasodilatation.; Physiology; Fysiologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The aims of the present thesis were to examine neuropeptide Y (NPY) responses in different human and guinea pig vascular beds and in cultured human vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) and to characterize, with different NPY agonists and the specific NPY Y1 receptor antagonist (BIBP3226), the NPY receptors involved. NPY-induced strong and potent contractions in human cerebral and subcutaneous arteries and in guinea pig basilar arteries. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Galanin receptor ligands : Design, synthesis, characterization and biological effects

    Författare :Kristin Webling; Ülo Langel; Tore Bengtsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Sammanfattning : Galanin is a 29/30 amino acid long bioactive peptide discovered over 30 years ago when C-terminally amidated peptides were isolated from porcine intestines. The name galanin originates from a combination of the first and last amino acids - G from glycine and the rest from alanine. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The cholecystokinin receptor family : molecular cloning and pharmacological characterization

    Författare :Isabelle Nilsson; Dan Larhammar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cholecystokinin (CCK) and gastrin are hormones/neurotransmittors of the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. The receptors for gastrin and CCK are members of the G protein-coupled receptor family. The aim of this study was to clone and pharmacologically characterize vertebrate and invertebrate CCK receptors and splice variants. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Source-Receptor Modeling of Air Pollution : Assessment of Source Contributions: Source Characterization and Chemometric Applications

    Författare :Emma Hedberg Larsson; Christer Johansson; H.-C. Hansson; Ralf Torgrip; Paulo Artaxo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Particles; Source-receptor modeling; PMF; Elemental source profiles; Levoglucosan; Wood combustion; Air pollution; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Particles released to the atmosphere from anthropogenic sources affect the Earth’s climate as well as the health of the population. Anthropogenic sources of atmospheric particles are e.g. the combustion of biomass and fossil fuels, road, brake and tire wear and various industrial activities. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization of Retinal Progenitor Cells : Focus on Proliferation and the GABAA Receptor System

    Författare :Henrik Ring; Finn Hallböök; Per Söderberg; Andras Simon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Regeneration; Proliferation; Neurotransmitters; Müller cells; Differentiation; Retinal repair; Neurogenesis; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : One strategy to repair an injured or degenerated retina is to stimulate the replacement of damaged or dead neurons with cells derived from endogenous stem- or progenitor cells. A successful strategy requires knowledge about how the proliferation and differentiation of the endogenous cells are regulated. LÄS MER
