1. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. Sammanfattning : When the heavy hydrogen isotopes deuterium (D) and tritium (T) undergo nuclear fusion large amounts of energy are released. At the Joint European Torus (JET) research is performed on how to harvest this energy. Two of the most important fusion reactions, d+d→3He+n (En = 2.5 MeV) and d+t→4He+n (En = 14 MeV), produce neutrons. LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, which belongs to vibrational spectroscopy, detects the vibrations of molecules, for example, proteins. The absorption of the peptide group gives rise to 9 characteristic bands in the infrared region, named A, B, I-VII, with a decreasing energy or wavenumber (cm-1). LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : Infrared spectroscopy detects molecular vibrations and assesses the properties of molecules and their environment. It is a powerful technique to detect ligand induced changes in biomolecules as it has distinct signals and provides different levels of structural information. LÄS MER
