  1. 1. Modeling glioblastoma growth patterns and their mechanistic origins

    Författare :Emil Rosén; Sven Nelander; Rebecka Jörnsten; Philip Gerlee; Kristin Swanson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; glioblastoma; invasion; image analysis; neural networks; Mathematics with specialization in Applied Mathematics; Matematik med inriktning mot tillämpad matematik; Oncology; Onkologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary brain cancer. GBM cells migrate away from the primary lesion and invade healthy brain tissue. The invading cells escape surgical resection, radiotherapy and develop resistance to chemotherapy. Consequently, despite treatment, recurrence is inevitable, and survival is only 14 months. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Matrix metalloproteinases in natural killer cells. Expression of MMPs, IL-2 activation and killer cell interactions with Matrigel® and model tumours

    Författare :Per Albertsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protease; matrix metalloproteinase; killer cell; IL-2; Matrigel; B16 melanoma; tumour infiltration; invasion assay; zymography; Western blot; RT-PCR; light microscopy; fluorescence; electron microscopy;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: IL-2 activated natural killer (A-NK) cells can recognize malignant cells and exert tumouricidal activities by multiple mechanisms that require close contact with the target cells. Upon adoptive transfer, some A-NK cells accumulate in tumours by migrating from the vascular bed to a position inside the malignant tissue, forming close contacts with target cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Molecular mechanisms of nerve-tumor interactions : the intersection of cancer and neurodevelopment

    Författare :Luz Maria Gonzalez-Castrillon; Sara I Wilson; Daniel Öhlund; Nisha D’Silva; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : A wide range of cancers throughout the body are characterized by high nerve density and invasion of cancer cells within the nerves, a process called perineural invasion (PNI). Work in the field has shown that blocking nerves in organs with tumors leads to improved disease outcomes suggesting that finding ways to block tumor nerves could lead to new treatment approaches. 4. 4. Molecular characterization of estrogen receptor beta variants : cancer cell proliferation and invasion

    Författare :Li Xu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Estrogen plays crucial roles in the pathogenesis of breast cancer. Most of the known effects of estrogen signaling are mediated by estrogen receptors (ERs), ERα and ERβ. ERα is explored for breast cancer molecular classification and is a target of endocrine therapy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular Mechanisms in Endothelial Cell Differentiation

    Författare :Emma Rennel; Pär Gerwins; Lena Claesson-Welsh; Ian Zachary; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pathology; angiogenesis; FGF-2; VEGF-A; signal transduction; in vitro angiogenesis assay; immortalized brain endothelial cells; H-Ras; tetracycline-regulated gene expression; microarray; telomerase immortalized human microvascular endothelial cells; differentiation; Patologi; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis is the formation of new blood vessels from the pre-existing blood vessels. Blood vessels are composed of endothelial cells and supporting musculature. Angiogenesis is regulated by numerous soluble ligands and by cell-matrix interactions. LÄS MER
