  1. 1. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations

    Detta är en avhandling från Otorhinolaryngology (Lund)

    Författare :Sören Berg; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1997]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arousals.; pharyngeal pressure; intrathoracic pressure; hypopnea; respiratory ventilation; oxygenation; Non apneic snorers; upper airway obstruction; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 2. 2. Visual influences on vestibular compensation and postural control

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Lund University

    Författare :Anna Hafström; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2007]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; Medicin människa och djur ; Vestibular schwannoma; Alcohol intoxication.; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Vestibular deafferentation; Visual-vestibular interactions; Subjective visual horizontal and vertical; Visual dependence; Utriculus; Balance; Vision; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to investigate visual-vestibular interactions in healthy subjects and in patients with a well defined unilateral vestibular lesion (vestibular schwannoma before and six months after translabyrinthine surgery). Visual information is particularly important for balance control during perturbed stance. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Influence of middle ear pressure changes on labyrinthine hydrodynamics and hearing physiology

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Lund University

    Författare :Konrad Konradsson; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1999]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; audiology; Pressure; Audiometry; Cats; Animal; Cochlea; Cochlear aqueduct; Ear; Eustachian tube; Hearing; Otorinolaryngologi; Human; Labyrinth; Otorhinolaryngology; Meniere s disease; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Results from experimental studies, as well as clinical studies, are used to elucidate the effects of ambient pressure changes on cochlear hydrodynamics and function. The perilymph pressure changes and the pressure release effects of the cochlear aqueduct (CA) and Eustachian tube (ET) in cats exposed to hypobaric pressure are elucidated. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck, with emphasis on 11q13 rearrangements and cyclin D1 overexpression

    Detta är en avhandling från Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Lund University

    Författare :Jan Åkervall; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1998]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; audiologi; Otorinolaryngologi; auditive system and speech; audiology; head and neck; squamous cell carcinoma; genetics; prognosis; CCND1; chromosomes; cyclin D1; chemotherapy; Otorhinolaryngology; gene expression; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : At present, clinical outcome or response to therapy can not be fully predicted in individual cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN). The overall aim of the present studies was to investigate potential prognostic factors, more closely related to the malignant progression of a tumor than the established markers, such as the TNM-classification system. 5. 5. Long-term follow-up after otitis media in childhood

    Detta är en avhandling från Marie Ryding, Dept of Otorhinolaryngology, Östersunds Hospital, 83183 Östersund

    Författare :Marie Ryding; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2004]
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; tympanic membrane pathology.; otitis media with effusion; hearing loss; follow-up; acute otitis media; Eustachian tube;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: Most preschool children have suffered from at least one episode of acute otitis media (AOM) and/or secretory otitis media (SOM). Some children have frequent AOM episodes and/or prolonged and recurrent episodes of secretory otitis media (SOM). The long-term out-come and sequelae are not fully clarified. LÄS MER
