  1. 1. Assessment of increased upper airway resistance in snorers. Methodological and diagnostic considerations

    Författare :Sören Berg; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arousals.; pharyngeal pressure; intrathoracic pressure; hypopnea; respiratory ventilation; oxygenation; Non apneic snorers; upper airway obstruction; Otorhinolaryngology; audiology; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep-related partial upper airway obstruction may cause increased morbidity and mortality, but diagnosis and treatment of patients is varying and inconsistent. The present studies were aimed to evaluate presently applied indirect methods for assessing respiratory ventilation and to investigate the value and accuracy in estimating upper airway resistance during sleep by measuring intrathoracic pressure variation with a microchip catheter in the esophagus. 2. 2. Burnout and sleep

    Författare :Mirjam Ekstedt; T Akerstedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sleep; burnout; sleepiness; fatigue; polysomnography; arousals; fragmentation; SWA; phenomenology; stress; metabolic; CVD;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe the physiological characteristics of sleep in persons with burnout and the relation between sleep and a number of physiological stress markers. The aim was also to evaluate the diurnal pattern of subjective sleepiness and fatigue across workday and weekend, and to describe the experiences of time preceding burnout from a life world perspective. 3. 3. Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Ketogenic Diet on Quality of Life and Changes in EEG and Sleep

    Författare :Tove Hallböök; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vagus nerve stimulation; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; behaviour; attention; ketogenic diet; delta power; slow wave sleep; REM; mood; sleep; quality of life; EEG; seizure frequency; spike detection; children; neurofysiologi; Pediatri; epilepsy; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : When anti-epileptic drugs fail, and epilepsy surgery is found unfeasible or ineffective, there remains a group of at least 25% of children with epilepsy in whom seizure control cannot be achieved. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an adjunctive treatment for medically refractory epilepsy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Sleep apnea and sleep : diagnostic aspects

    Författare :Carin Sahlin; Karl Franklin; Eva Lindberg; Eva Svanborg; Åke Tegelberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sleep apnea; sleep stages; snoring; stroke; polysomnography; Cheyne-Stokes respiration; supine-dependency; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Lung diseases; Lungsjukdomar; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Patients with sleep apnea have frequent apneas and hypopneas during sleep. Apneas can be either central or obstructive. The apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) is the mean number of apneas and hypopneas per hour of sleep. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Outcomes and Implications of Nasal Measurements in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Författare :Hans Christian Hoel; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea OSA ; Respiratory system diagnostic technique; nasal obstruction; Sleep hypopnea; Rhinomanometry;

    Sammanfattning : BackgroundObstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent disorder and symptoms of nasal obstruction are highly prevalent in OSA. Treatment of nasal obstruction in OSA patients has shown modest and variable outcomes in reducing the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), but significant improvements in other indicators, such as sleep quality and daytime sleepiness as well as reductions in arousals have been observed.
