  1. 21. Health-related Quality of Life in Head and Neck Cancer. A Five-year Prospective Multicenter Study

    Författare :Mats Nordgren; allergi och livskvalitet Laryngoesofagologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ; Health-related quality of life; hörsel- och talorganen; prospective; longitudinal; predictive factors; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; audiologi; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; audiology; Otorhinolaryngology; head and neck cancer; EORTC QLQ-C30;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this prospective longitudinal multicenter study was to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients with head and neck cancer at diagnosis, after one and five years in relation to tumour location, stage, sub site, treatment modality, gender and age. The first part of the study, lasting for one year, consisted of 357 patients (mean age 63 years; 72% males) that were included between 1993 and 1995. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in Sweden : Diagnostic Protocol and Treatment in Relation to Outcome

    Författare :Ramesh Nosrati-Zarenoe; Elisabeth Hultcrantz; Stig Arlinger; Leif Hergils; Barbara Canlon; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (ISSNHL) is a rapid loss of hearing caused by damage to the cochlea (inner ear) or auditory nerve. Spontaneous recovery has been seen in 32% - 81%. The incidence of the ISSNHL has been estimated to be between 5 and 20 per 100,000 per year. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Recurrent Streptococcal Pharyngotonsillitis Studies on etiology and treatment

    Författare :Arne Orrling; Lund näs- och halssjukdomar Öron-; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; Otorinolaryngologi; Infektioner; Otorhinolaryngology; Infections; Clindamycin.; Penicillin tolerance; Tonsillar surface fluid; treatment failure; Group A streptococci; hörsel- och talorganen; audiologi; audiology; Recurrent streptococcal pharyngotonsillitis;

    Sammanfattning : In acute pharyngotonsillitis group A streptococci (GAS) is the etiological agent in 30-50% of cases. Phenoxymethylpenicillin (pcV) is the drug of choice in Sweden. However, the failure rate is as high as 5-25% and further pcV treatment is followed by still higher failure rates. The background of failures remains largely elusive. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Ventilation of the Paranasal Sinuses. A study using the 133-Xenon Washout Technique

    Författare :Bo Paulsson; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; auditive system and speech; single photon emission computed tomography; paranasal sinuses; ventilation; 133-xenon; chronic sinusitis; nose-sinus model; endoscopic sinus surgery; oxymetazoline; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorinolaryngologi; audiologi; hörsel- och talorganen; audiology;

    Sammanfattning : A noninvasive 133-xenon washout technique was used to evaluate the ventilation of the paranasal sinuses in healthy subjects and in patients with sinus disease. A mixture of air and 133-xenon is insufflated into the nasal cavities and passage into the sinuses is facilitated by a pressure increase created by letting the subjects inflate a balloon. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Nitric Oxide in the Inner Ear with Particular Regard to Neurotansmission and Pharmacotherapy

    Författare :Raul Popa; Diana Berggren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Research into nitric oxide (NO) in the inner ear has expanded explosively during recent years. There is evidence that NO is present in the various cochlear structures and its action is involved in physiological mechanisms, such as neurotransmission, and in pathological processes, e.g. ototoxicity.
