Sammanfattning : The paradigm shift from 4G to 5G communications, predicted to enable new use cases such as ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC), will enforce a radical change in the design of communication systems. Unlike in 4G systems, where the main objective is to have a large transmission rate, in URLLC, as implied by its name, the objective is to enable transmissions with low latency and, simultaneously, very high reliability. Sammanfattning : This thesis treats some information-theoretical and coding aspects of communication over multiple-access and fading channels. It consists of a general introduction and seven papers. In code-division multiple-access (CDMA) communication, many users have access to the channel simultaneously. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Recent results in communication theory suggest that significant throughput gains in wireless fading networks can be achieved by exploiting network coordination (e.g., CoMP, network MIMO, and interference alignment), provided that each node in the network has perfect channel knowledge. Sammanfattning : Prediction of the rapidly fading envelope of a mobile radio channel enables a number of capacity improving techniques like fast resource allocation and fast link adaptation. This thesis deals with linear prediction of the complex impulse response of a channel and unbiased quadratic prediction of the power. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Wireless sensor networks are attractive largely because they need no wired infrastructure. But precisely this feature makes them energy constrained, and the consequences of this hard energy constraint are the overall topic of this thesis. LÄS MER
