Sammanfattning : Does mediation via the Internet contribute to the use of the Bible as a cultural resource, and if so does this contribute to other ways of relating to the Bible as an authority? This is investigated in three steps. Firstly, quantitative survey data concerning Bible reading and other forms of contact with the Bible as well as attitudes to the Bible are scrutinized for variation over time and generational differences. 2. Voices of Muslim Feminists : Navigating Tradition, Authority and the Debate about Islam
Sammanfattning : Drawing on in-depth interviews with women in Sweden and the Øresund region who have publicly positioned themselves as believing Muslim feminists, this study explores what is involved in their self-positioning, how they conceptualize Muslim feminism, and construct its meaning. The accounts of the participants in this study revolve around three broad themes: First, the aspiration for self-representation as Muslims, second, the negotiations on gender equality and Islam, and third, the negotiation between internal and external religious authority. 3. Gracious Traditions : Contemporary Transnational Egyptian Post-Tariqa Sufism
Sammanfattning : An overarching aim of this study is to contribute to the developing body of studies of non-organized and thereby “invisible” Muslims in the West. The thesis probes into the question of what Sufism means in the individual lives of seven Muslims in the US and Sweden who share a relatively privileged Egyptian socio-economic background. LÄS MER
4. "Godis för kropp och själ" : Välbefinnande och vardagsandlighet i tre svenska kvinnotidningar
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses discourses on health and wellbeing in three Swedish lifestyle magazines for women, Amelia, Tara and M-magasin, and how readers of these magazines reflect on and negotiate the values and identities presented in them. The aim of the thesis is to contribute to increased knowledge about mediatized religion, directed to women by commercial women's magazines on a secular market, and how this religion is presented, perceived and used as a resource for women's wellbeing, lifestyle and identity. Sammanfattning : The point of departure for this dissertation is the question of how people perceive what it means to be a citizen. In Sweden, voluntary work is a widespread social phenomenon and studying what voluntary work means to people enables the study of an important form of citizenship in contemporary society. LÄS MER
