  1. 1. Molecular mechanisms of nerve-tumor interactions : the intersection of cancer and neurodevelopment

    Författare :Luz Maria Gonzalez-Castrillon; Sara I Wilson; Daniel Öhlund; Nisha D’Silva; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perineural invasion; cancer; PDAC; axonogenesis; neurodevelopment; spinal cord; axon guidance; bioinformatics.; biomedical laboratory science; biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : A wide range of cancers throughout the body are characterized by high nerve density and invasion of cancer cells within the nerves, a process called perineural invasion (PNI). Work in the field has shown that blocking nerves in organs with tumors leads to improved disease outcomes suggesting that finding ways to block tumor nerves could lead to new treatment approaches. 2. 2. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons

    Författare :Helena Sturesson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []

    Sammanfattning : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Expression and Regulation of Neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the Islets of Langerhans

    Författare :Ulrika Myrsén Axcrona; Neuroendokrin cellbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; regulatory peptides; diabetes; glucocorticoids; beta cell; islet hormones; neuropeptide Y; insulin; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the expression, localization and regulation of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans under normal and experimental conditions. NPY is widely distributed in the mammalian nervous system and belongs to a family of closely related petides also comprising peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Endogenous activators of the pain receptor TRPV1 From cell to man

    Författare :Pouya Movahed Rad; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; cannabinoids; capsazepine; N-acylethanolamines; anandamide; blood Circulation; vasodilation; humans; calcitonin Gene-related Peptide; capsaicin; neurogenic inflammation; nociceptors; TRPV1 protein; pain;

    Sammanfattning : N-acylethanolamines (NAEs) belong to a growing family of endogenous signalling molecules acting on a variety of receptors and ion channels. In 1992, it was reported that the N-acylethanolamine anandamide is present in the brain and activates the central cannabinoid (CB) receptor. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cardiac and vascular pathology in Lewy body disease and Alzheimer's disease: exploring neurocognitive disorder beyond the brain

    Författare :Keivan Javanshiri; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The first aim of this thesis was to evaluate the prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CaVD), hypertension (HT), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the neurodegenerative disorders Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Lewy body disease (LBD). These conditions are considered modifiable risk factors for vascular dementia (VaD), and recent research has proposed its association with AD. LÄS MER
