  1. 1. Paediatric surgical care in Sweden. Studies on incidence, outcome and access

    Författare :Erik Omling; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PUBLIC HEALTH; Surgery; Paediatric surgery; Access to care; Quality of care; Epidemiological studies; Appendicitis; Cryptorchidism; Centralisation;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Advanced paediatric surgery is increasingly centralised in Sweden in order to improve treatment outcomes and reduce surgical risks. However, the overall need for surgery in the paediatric population has not been estimated, and the association between geographic access to surgical facilities and timely treatment for common surgical conditions in children is largely unknown. 2. 2. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy. Therapy Settings and Biological Effects in Peripheral Wounds

    Författare :Ola Borgquist; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Negative pressure wound therapy; vacuum-assisted closure; wound healing;

    Sammanfattning : Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) promotes wound healing through several mechanisms, e.g., altered periwound blood flow, mechanical deformation of the wound edge tissue, and drainage of excess fluid and debris. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The overall purpose of this thesis was to explore the impact of exercise and functional performance on development and treatment of knee osteoarthritis in the middle aged. In this thesis, I have studied a population based cohort of middle-aged subjects (35-54 years, 42 % women) with chronic knee pain at baseline, to evaluate the longitudinal effect of muscle weakness on knee osteoarthritis development, the relationship between muscle function and joint load and the effects of exercise on joint load. 4. 4. Calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase signal transduction in cerebral arteries

    Författare :Roya Waldsee; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAMK; Ednothelin receptors; Calcium; gene regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebral arteries participate actively in the response that follows an episode of cerebral ischemia in man and rat. It has been shown that the vascular endothelin receptor expression is increased in stroke and organ culture. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mitochondrial function in sepsis - Temporal evolvement of respiratory capacity in human blood cells

    Författare :Fredrik Sjövall; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; sepsis; severe sepsis; septic shock; platelets; mitochondria; OXPHOS; high-resolution respirometry; mitochondrial disorders; multiple organ failure; biogenesis; leukocytes; cytokines; respirometry; oxygen consumption; blood cells; temporal;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a devastating disease that is caused by the host’s response to an overwhelming infectious process. As sepsis progresses, organs distant from the site of infection become affected and sepsis-induced multiple organ failure ensues. LÄS MER
