6. Streptococcal M protein and human C4BP
Sammanfattning : Antigenic variation of surface proteins allows microorganisms to evade the immune system of the infected host. This phenomenon represents an apparent paradox, because the variable protein must retain an important function, while its antigenic properties vary extensively. LÄS MER
7. Smoking and airway disorders in an urban population -special references to gender and socioeconomic status
Sammanfattning : The Malmö Preventive Project, a preventive, case-finding programme for cardiovascular risk factors and alcohol abuse was created in 1974 at the Department of Preventive Medicine of Malmö University Hospital. Between 1974-1992, a total of 22 444 men (mean age 44 years range 27 - 61) and 10 902 women (mean age 50 years, range 28 - 58) attended the programme, with an overall attendance rate of 70% (range 64-78). 8. Serine protease inhibitors in the upper and lower airways
Sammanfattning : Proteases and their inhibitors are implicated in the physiology and pathology of the airways. Protease inhibitors include those produced locally, such as secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI), and those produced mainly by the liver that can reach the airways via passive diffusion, such as alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT). 9. Studies on intrinsic and extrinsic sources of variability in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
Sammanfattning : Variability in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters between individuals can be due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors. In this thesis three different areas regarding sources of variability have been investigated. 1. Formulation properties as an extrinsic source of variability. LÄS MER
10. Results and complications of endovascular neurointerventions in intracranial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, evaluated by conventional angiography and diffusion-perfusion MRI
Sammanfattning : Aims - To describe and evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial fibrinolysis and the clinical outcome in SAH patients with thromboembolic complications during endovascular coiling of a ruptured aneurysm. (Paper I) - To describe the use and feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially diffusion and perfusion imaging, in three patients treated endovascularly for various cerebrovascular disorders.
