  2. 2. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) in the Assessment of Respiratory Mechanics

    Författare :Gaetano Perchiazzi; Göran Hedenstierna; Björn Jonson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; artificial neural networks; respiratory system compliance; respiratory system resistance; respiratory system time constant; intrinsic positive end expiratory pressure; PEEPi; animal model; acute lung injury; oleic acid; Otis model; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to test the capability of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) to estimate respiratory mechanics during mechanical ventilation (MV). ANNs are universal function approximators and can extract information from complex signals. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Home Mechanical Ventilation in Sweden. Demography, Indications, Clinical Effects and Survival

    Författare :Michael Laub; Lund Lungmedicin och Allergologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; home mechanical ventilation; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; causes of death; selection criteria; clinical effects; prevalence; temporal changes; survival; Chronic respiratory failure hypoventilation;

    Sammanfattning : Home mechanical ventilation in patients with chronic respiratory failure secondary to several different diseases has become widely acceptable as the provision of ventilatory support can provide symptomatic relief and increase life expectancy. Aims: To study the selection criteria underlying the initiation of home mechanical ventilation and to quantify the effects of in relation to blood gases and lung function; to examine temporal changes in treatment prevalence in Sweden; to study survival and causes of death and demonstrate possible related impact factors. 4. 4. Lung mechanics in the aging lung and in acute lung injury. Studies based on sinusoidal flow modulation

    Författare :Ulrika Bitzén; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diagnostics; Diagnostik; acute lung injury; lung mechanics; acute respiratory distress syndrome; intensivvård; Anestesiologi; intensive care; Anaesthesiology; Andningsorganen; Respiratory system; Fysiologi; Physiology; flow regulation; method; lung resistance; compliance; aging;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about lung mechanics is of interest in intensive care to adjust mechanical ventilation and in the lung laboratory for diagnostics and evaluation of patients with various kinds of respiratory diseases. In mechanical ventilation a single inspiratory elastic pressure-volume (Pel/V) curve is difficult to interpret due to continuing re-expansion of collapsed lung units over a large pressure interval. 5. 5. Tools for protective lung ventilation. The elastic pressure-volume curve and aspiration of dead space

    Författare :Edoardo De Robertis; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; radiology; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; tomography; medical instrumentation; Respiratory system; Andningsorganen;

    Sammanfattning : Ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) may contribute to morbidity and mortality of acute lung injury (ALI). Lung protective ventilation (LPV), that reduces VILI, may involve low tidal volume (Vt). Particularly low Vt is possible if dead space ventilation is reduced e.g. LÄS MER
