1. Microbial Community Assembly during Aerobic Granulation
Sammanfattning : Environmental deterioration together with the increasingly restrictive legislation of water quality standards have led to a demand for compact, efficient and less energy consuming technologies for wastewater treatment. Aerobic granular membrane bioreactors (AGMBRs) combine the advantages of aerobic granular sludge and membrane filtration. LÄS MER
2. Nuclear magnetic resonance and microcirculation: The influence of pulsatile brain-tissue motion on measurements of intravoxel incoherent motion and assessment of haemodynamics using exo- and endogenous tracers
Sammanfattning : In this project, the potential of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy in studies of microcirculation and haemodynamics was evaluated. The spatial and temporal characteristics of human pulsatile brain-tissue movements in healthy individuals, relevant for the understanding of the cerebrospinal-fluid (CSF) circulation and the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus, were thoroughly investigated. 3. Analysis and Control of Continuous Microaerobic Ethanol Production by Yeast
Sammanfattning : Glucose fermentation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and xylose fermentation by Candida utilis and Pichia stipitis, were investigated under microaerobic conditions. A dynamic experimental method named oxygen programmed fermentation (OPF), and a method for microaerobic RQ control in continuous culture have been developed. LÄS MER
4. Modelling of tolerance and rebound in normal and diseased rats
Sammanfattning : The development of rebound and tolerance is an important consideration when optimizing medical therapy, both with respect to drug dosing and adverse effects. By using quantitative approaches to study these processes, potential risks can be minimized. LÄS MER
5. Anaerobic Digester Fluid Rheology and Process Efficiency : Interactions of Substrate Composition, Trace Element Availability, and Microbial Activity
Sammanfattning : As the anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions continue imposing stress on our environment, it is becoming increasingly important to identify and implement new renewable technologies. Biogas production through anaerobic digestion has a great potential, since it links waste treatment with extraction of renewable energy, enabling circular bio-economies that are vital for a sustainable future.
