    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the topic of grounding in human-robot interaction, that is, the process by which the human and robot can ensure mutual understanding. To explore this topic, the scenario of a robot holding a presentation to a human audience is used, where the robot has to process multimodal feedback from the human in order to adapt the presentation to the human's level of understanding. Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers in the field of mathematical biology. All papers aim to advance our understanding of biological systems through the development and application of innovative mathematical models. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Modelling of turbulent gas-particle flow

    Författare :Tobias Strömgren; Gustav Amberg; Arne Johansson; Johan Revstedt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent gas-particle flows; modelling; turbophoresis; two-way coupling; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : An Eulerian-Eulerian model for dilute gas-particle turbulent flows is developed for engineering applications. The aim is to understand the effect of particles on turbulent flows. The model is implemented in a finite element code which is used to perform numerical simulations. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Assessing future effects on lake ecosystem resilience using data analysis and dynamic modelling : Modelling the effects of extreme weather events and climate warming on lakes

    Författare :Jorrit P. Mesman; Bastiaan W Ibelings; Stéphane Goyette; Don C Pierson; Karsten Rinke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extreme events; Storms; Modelling; Climate change; Thermal structure; Phytoplankton;

    Sammanfattning : Extreme weather events can have short-term and long-term effects on lake thermal structure, nutrient dynamics, and community composition. Moreover, changes in lake variables induced by global climate change may influence the response and recovery of lake ecosystems to extreme weather events. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mathematical modelling approach to collective decision-making

    Författare :Natalia Zabzina; Denis Gaidashev; Torbjörn Lundh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :collective behaviour; collective decision-making; communication mechanisms; positive feedback; mathematical modelling; bifurcation phenomena; steady state solutions; symmetry breaking; symmetry restoring; diffusion-limited aggregation; fractal dimension;

    Sammanfattning : In everyday situations individuals make decisions. For example, a tourist usually chooses a crowded or recommended restaurant to have dinner. Perhaps it is an individual decision, but the observed pattern of decision-making is a collective phenomenon. LÄS MER
