  1. 1. The balance between sex and asex: evolutionary genetic studies of reproductive variation in Allium vineale

    Författare :Alf Ceplitis; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ontogeny; growth animal ; Allium vineale; Development biology; evolution; sexual reproduction; reproductive systems; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi; ontogeni; embryologi; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evolutionary theory predicts a disadvantage to sexual reproduction. This manifests itself either by the higher growth rate of asexual females in a dioecious species, or by the higher transmission rate of a gene conferring asexual female function to its carriers in a hermaphrodite species. 2. 2. Dagens Gennyheter : Hur massmedier berättar om genetik och genteknik

    Författare :Malin Ideland; Avdelningen för etnologi; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Medical technology; Media; Genetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; Medicin; Cloning; Natural Unnatural; Risk Possibility; Nature Nurture; Fact Fiction; Journalistic Narrations; Metaphor; Interdiscourse; Intertextuality; Discourse; Gene Technology; Press and communication sciences; Media; Medicinsk teknik; Medicin; Journalistik; kommunikation; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : During the 1990’s gene technology got a break-through – both as a science and in people’s consciousness. Media reported frequently about scientific breakthroughs. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vacuolar Ca2+-ATPases in Plants. Regulation by calmodulin binding to a N-terminal autoinhibitory domain

    Författare :Susanna Malmström; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; N terminus; autoinhibitory domain; vacuole; calmodulin; calcium; plants; Ca2 -ATPase; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The calcium ion (Ca2+) is essential for all plant and animal life. One important function of Ca2+ is as a second messenger in the responses of the cell to environmental and hormonal signals as well as in some intrinsic developmental processes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Plasminogen and protein PAM: Interactions between streptococcal surface proteins and the human fibrinolytic system

    Författare :Annika Carlsson Wistedt; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bacteriology; Microbiology; M protein; streptokinase; kringles; plasmin; Streptococcus pyogenes; plasminogen; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogenic bacteria often produce potent proteases capable of destroying host tissue thereby providing the bacteria with tools for spreading and nutrient access. This thesis describes how group A, C and G streptococci can acquire surface bound protease activity through an alternative mechanism, namely by binding and activation of the human protease precursor plasminogen.
