1. Modelling Sexual Interactions : Sexual behaviour and the spread of sexually transmitted infections on dynamic networks
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we develop statistical and mathematical models to study different factors of relevance for the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Two special interest groups for STI interventions are considered: sexually active youths and men who have sex with men (MSM). LÄS MER
2. Konstruktioner av den sexuella familjen : styrning av föräldrablivande i rättslig reglering av assisterad befruktning och juridiskt föräldraskap
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis deals with the Swedish legal regulation of becoming a parent. It covers the regulation of legal parental status and of health care-provided assisted reproduction. LÄS MER
3. Sexual Conflict and Gene Expression in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Sexual conflict is broadly defined as a conflict between the evolutionary interests of the two sexes. Depending on the genetic architecture of the traits involved, it can occur at the level of male-female interactions or take the form of selection acting to change the mean of a shared trait against the sign of its genetic correlation. 4. Genetic variation and sexual reproduction in a moss with dwarf males, Homalothecium lutescens
Sammanfattning : Dwarf males occur in many unrelated groups of organisms. Among land plants they are unique to mosses. Moss dwarf males originate from male spores that land and germinate on the female where their final size is restricted to a few mm. Fertilization in mosses occur over short distances with swimming spermatozoids. LÄS MER
5. Sexual Selection and Adaptation to Novel Environments
Sammanfattning : The work included in this thesis aims at exploring the environmental sensitivity of benefits and costs of sexual selection through a combined empirical and theoretical effort, to increase our understanding of the impact of environmental change on sexually reproducing populations. Can sexual selection promote adaptation to novel environments? Sexual selection for good genes should accelerate adaptation by granting higher reproductive success to individuals of high genetic quality. LÄS MER
