  1. 6. Inflammation-Induced Gene Expression in Brain and Adrenal Gland

    Författare :Linda Engström; Anders Blomqvist; Tomas Hökfelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; brain; adrenal gland; stress; lipopolysaccharide; interleukin-1; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The autonomic nervous system serves to maintain a constant inner environment, a process termed homeostasis. Thus, in response to the homeostatic challenge posed by infectious agents, the autonomic nervous system answers to signals from the immune system and elicits adaptive physiological and behavioral reactions. 2. 7. Cardiac hypertrophy : transcription patterns, hypertrophic progression and extracellular signalling

    Författare :Nina Gennebäck; Stellan Mörner; Anders Waldenström; Urban Hellman; Ali J Marian; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac hypertrophy; HCM; gene expression; OPLS-DA; multivariate dataanalysis; cardiomyocytes; exosomes; microvesicles; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The aim of this thesis was to study transcription patterns and extracellular signalling of the hypertrophic heart to better understand the mechanisms initiating, controlling and maintaining cardiac hypertrophy.Cardiac hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. 3. 8. Regulation of vascular function by fluid mechanical forces. Development of a new vascular experimental platform for integrative physiological and molecular biological studies of living conduit vessels

    Författare :Li-Ming Gan; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; perfusion model; endothelium; smooth muscle cells; shear stress; pressure; nitric oxide; endothelin-1; vascular endothelial growth factor; c-jun; c-fos; real-time PCR; NO probe.;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular endothelium is a multifunctional interface between blood flow and target organs and is continuously exposed to fluid mechanical forces such as shear stress, compressive, and tensile forces. Both in vivo and in vitro data indicate that biomechanical forces exert important modulating effects on key vascular functions. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Mechanisms of traumatic brain injury in the rat : Morphological consequences and neurotrophic responses

    Författare :Anders Lewén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Cortical contusion injury; TBI; neurons; axons; dendrites; APP; MAP2; BMPR-II; ActR-I; trkB; c-fos; BDNF; PACAP; TUNEL; TGFs; serine threonine; bone morphogenetic protein; neuropeptides; reactive oxygen species; ROS; apoptosis; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurosurgery; neurokirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic brain injury is a major cause of death and disability in the Western world. especially in young people. Understanding the pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury is the basis for further development of better therapeutic strategies for such patients. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Control of human papillomavirus type 1 late mRNA stability and translation by an AU-rich RNA element

    Författare :Marcus Sokolowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; HPV-1; HPV-16; late genes; 3´ UTR; L1; L2; c-fos; AU rich element; HuR; hnRNP C1 C2; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Human Papillomaviruses (HPVs) infect the epithelial tissues in humans and infection with certain high-risk types is associated with cancer. The expressionof the HPV late capsid genes is dependent on cell differentiation. This may be one reason for the lack of HPV replication in vitro. LÄS MER
