  1. 16. Signaling to and from the sodium pump : effects of insulin and cardiotonic steroids

    Författare :Olga Kotova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Na ; K -ATPase; insulin; C-peptide; exercise; in vitro contraction; cardiotonic steroids; ouabain; marinobufagenin; ERK 1 2 MAP kinase; Src; p90 rsk; GSK3; signaling cascade; glycogen synthesis; human skeletal muscle cells; human renal tubular cells; rat skeletal muscle.;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin and proinsulin-connecting peptide (C-peptide) stimulate Na+,K+-ATPase activity. The molecular mechanism by which insulin and C-peptide regulate the Na-pump in differentiated primary human skeletal muscle cells (HSMCs) and primary human renal tubular cells (HRTCs) was determined. 2. 17. The metabolic syndrome : studies on thrifty genes

    Författare :Katja Kannisto; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adipose tissue; adiponectin; 11beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1; BMI; glucocorticoid; GLUT; HAART; HIV; IL-6; insulin; insulin resistance; LDL-cholesterol; leptin; lifestyle; lipodystrophy; LPL; obesity; PPAR; PGC-1; polymorphism; rosiglitazone; skeletal muscle; twins;

    Sammanfattning : The metabolic syndrome consists of a cluster of atherogenic risk factors that include insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, obesity and a procoagulant state with impaired fibrinolysis. Genetic factors might predispose to the metabolic syndrome while the increasing prevalence of visceral and abdominal obesity linked to the shift to more sedentary lifestyles exacerbates the manifestation. 3. 18. Tracing Prehistoric Activities : Life ways, habitual behaviour and health of hunter-gatherers on Gotland

    Författare :Petra Molnar; Jan Storå; Christopher Knüsel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Activity-related change; Musculoskeletal Stress Markers; Extramasticatory wear; dental wear; Health index; Pitted Ware culture; Neolithic; Ajvide; Archaeology; Arkeologi; osteoarkeologi; Osteoarchaeology;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, skeletal and dental evidence of physical strain and habitual behaviour has been investigated through musculoskeletal stress markers (MSM) and extramasticatory dental wear. The skeletal and dental traits have been examined in relation to health patterns and material culture in order to gain better knowledge of life ways of hunter-gatherers on Gotland with special focus on Pitted Ware culture sites and the Ajvide site in particular. 4. 19. Determining the effects of regulatory parameters on the structural dynamics of P-type ATPase membrane transporters

    Författare :Fredrik Orädd; Magnus Andersson; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Marco Cammarata; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein dynamics; regulation; time-resolved x-ray solution scattering; MD simulation; membrane protein; P-type ATPase; SERCA; CopA; HMA4; adenylate kinase; Physical Chemistry; fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are macromolecular machines with roles in all cellular activities and structures. The functional properties of each protein is the result of its combination of 3D-structure and inherent dynamics, and a wealth of structural and dynamic mechanisms have evolved to regulate protein activity. Sammanfattning : Many human diseases are associated with the malfunction of enzymes in the aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family, e.g. phenylketonuria (PKU), hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA), schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. LÄS MER
