  1. 41. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor in cerebral ischemia: a quantitative study on surviving and newly formed neurons

    Författare :Elin Gustafsson; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; cerebral ischemia; neuronal survival; neurogenesis; hippocampus; striatum; immunocytochemistry; stereology; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; neurofysiologi; Neurology;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores the role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) for neuronal vulnerability and neurogenesis following cerebral ischemia in the rat. Cerebral ischemia results in selective neuronal cell loss in specific brain regions. We here demonstrate the rank order of vulnerability in two regions affected by global forebrain ischemia, i. 2. 42. Assessment of Graft Effects and Function in Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease

    Författare :Peter Hagell; Äldres hälsa och personcentrerad vård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; neuropsychology; Neurology; measurement; psychometrics; perceived health; dyskinesias; assessment; striatum; positron emission tomography; dopamine; Parkinson s disease; transplantation;

    Sammanfattning : This explorative study aimed to apply, develop, and evaluate assessment methods at various levels in cell replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Observed motor effects in five grafted patients support that timed motor tasks and clinical ratings of parkinsonism are able to monitor motor function, but their psychometric properties need further attention. 3. 43. Effects of Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Ketogenic Diet on Quality of Life and Changes in EEG and Sleep

    Författare :Tove Hallböök; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vagus nerve stimulation; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; behaviour; attention; ketogenic diet; delta power; slow wave sleep; REM; mood; sleep; quality of life; EEG; seizure frequency; spike detection; children; neurofysiologi; Pediatri; epilepsy; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : When anti-epileptic drugs fail, and epilepsy surgery is found unfeasible or ineffective, there remains a group of at least 25% of children with epilepsy in whom seizure control cannot be achieved. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an adjunctive treatment for medically refractory epilepsy. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Stroke epidemiology in Southern Sweden. Trends in incidence and survival across two decades with projections into the future

    Författare :Björn Hallström; Lund Neurologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; hospitalization; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; trends; survival; incidence; stroke; epidemiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Stroke is a major cause of death and disability. Investigations of the epidemiological trends for stroke might result in better understanding of stroke pathogenesis and prevention. LÄS MER

  5. 45. Mitochondrial permeability transition following calcium overload. - Its role in neuronal cell death and potential as a pharmacological target

    Författare :Magnus Hansson; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; farmakognosi; farmaci; Bioenergetik; Bioenergetics; neuropsykologi; toxikologi; neurofysiologi; Neurologi; Neurology; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurodegeneration; Mitochondria; Brain; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; Farmakologi; toxicology;

    Sammanfattning : There is currently no clinically available drug with neuroprotective properties to limit the evolving cell death following e.g. stroke or traumatic brain injury. The mitochondrial permeability transition (mPT) is a potential pathological mechanism causing cell death in the CNS. LÄS MER
