31. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 32. The expression and function of protein kinase C isoforms in differentiating neuroblastoma cells
Sammanfattning : The human neuroblastoma cell line SH-SY5Y can be induced to differentiate into a neuronal sympathetic phenotype after treatment with 16 nM 12-O-tetradecanoyl phorbol 13-acetate (TPA) in serum, or by a combination of the growth factors basic fibroblast growth factor and insulin-like growth factor-I (bFGF/IGF-I). SH-SY5Y cells stably transfected with TrkA, the nerve growth factor (NGF) receptor, differentiate in response to NGF. LÄS MER
33. Mechanisms of Mitochondria-Induced Brain Damage Following Ischemia and Hypoglycemia
Sammanfattning : Mechanisms of Mitochondria-Induced Brain Damage Following Ischemia and Hypoglycemia Following prolonged disruption of blood flow to the central nervous system (CNS), or energy deprivation by other means, such as hypoglycemia, some cells will inevitably degenerate. It has been, and still is, the subject of considerable debate and intense research on brain ischemia, as to the mode of cell death, i. LÄS MER
34. STRENGTH TRAINING AFTER STROKE: EFFECTS ON MUSCLE FUNCTION, GAIT PERFORMANCE AND PERCEIVED PARTICIPATION
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the effects of strength training on muscle function, gait performance and perceived participation in subjects with chronic mild to moderate post-stroke hemiparesis. A main impairment after stroke is reduced muscle strength. LÄS MER
35. Analysis of Adaptation in Human Postural Control
Sammanfattning : The ability to obtain correct balance control information and adjust motor performance appropriately are essential elements in effective postural control. However, functional disorders may affect the reliability of receptor information and ability to carry out corrective motions needed to maintain balance. LÄS MER
