    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about whether it is a good idea to place monetary value on nature, to remedy the fact that we treat it as having no particular value to us humans, although it clearly has. The thesis is based on five research papers that can be said to position themselves on opposite sides in the debate on monetisation of nature. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Rättsligt skydd av biologisk mångfald : etiska perspektiv och normkonflikter

    Författare :Caroline Gardelli; Maria Pettersson; Lars Bäckström; Henrik Josefsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; miljörätt; miljöetik; biologisk mångfald; invasiva främmande arter; försiktighetsprincipen; normkonflikt; Law; Rättsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : En förutsättning för att vi ska uppnå en hållbar utveckling är att vi bevarar den biologiska mångfalden, vilken bland annat hotas av införsel och spridning av invasiva främmande arter. Ett viktigt instrument för att skydda den biologiska mångfalden utgörs av de rättsliga ramar som satts upp på internationell, EU- och nationell nivå. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The threat from non indigenous species - ecosystem vulnerability, global distribution and co-occurrence with other major threats

    Författare :Helena Berglund; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; threats; distribution range; isolation; endemism; invasions; invaders; vulnerability; non indigenous species; rarity; threatened species;

    Sammanfattning : We live in a globalised world where people and goods travel large distances. Various species are brought along on these journeys, intentionally or as hitchhikers. Some of these species establish populations in regions to which they could not have spread without human assistance, and where they are considered to be non indigenous species (NIS). LÄS MER

  4. 4. D-arabinitol in the diagnosis of invasive candidiasis

    Författare :Gudrun Sigmundsdottir; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; D-arabinitol; D-arabitol; Candida; invasive candidiasis; production rate; diagnosis; neonate; neutropenic; HIV;

    Sammanfattning : Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a serious condition and timely diagnosis with early initiation of antifungal therapy is imerative for improving outcomes. Arabinitol is a sugar alcohol with two stereoisomers, D-arabinitol (DA) and L-arabintiol (LA). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ecological interactions in human modified landscapes : Landscape dependent remedies for the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem services

    Författare :Arvid Bolin; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :Central place foraging; Agriculture; Competition; Ecosystem service; Species coexistence; bumble bees; landscape ecology; Biodiversity; Agri-environment scheme; Central place foraging; jordbruk; konkurrens; landskaps ekologi; humlor; bin;

    Sammanfattning : Modern agricultural practices have led to an intensification of the agricultural landscape which has negatively affected both biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides. In my thesis I have used ecological theory of optimal foraging to try and explain how landscape structure, landscape composition and agricultural management can explain the loss of biodiversity and how remedies can efficiently be implemented.
