  1. 1. Species Aid : Organizational Sensemaking in a Preservation Project in Albania

    Författare :Peter Green; Gudrun Dahl; Åsa Boholm; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Conservation; social anthropology; ecological anthropology; global environmental issues; Albania; sensemaking; organisational theory.; Cultural anthropology; Kulturantropologi;

    Sammanfattning : In 1994 a Hungarian fisheries biologist specialised on sturgeons revealed that there was at least one population of sturgeons belonging to the threatened sturgeon species Ac. Naccari still present in the Albanian aquatic fauna. The stage was now set for an international conservation initiative. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Investigating genetic factors behind the decline of a threatened plant species – Tephroseris integrifolia (Asteraceae)

    Författare :Kerstin Isaksson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantitative genetics.; AFLP; local genetic variation; relict populations; fragmentation; small populations; sporophytic self-incompatibility; extinction; threatened species; Inbreeding depression; population structure;

    Sammanfattning : Landscape change in Europe has caused the decline of many grassland species. Tephroseris integrifolia (Asteraceae) is one species which has declined rapidly in Sweden since the 19th century. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The threat from non indigenous species - ecosystem vulnerability, global distribution and co-occurrence with other major threats

    Författare :Helena Berglund; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; threats; distribution range; isolation; endemism; invasions; invaders; vulnerability; non indigenous species; rarity; threatened species;

    Sammanfattning : We live in a globalised world where people and goods travel large distances. Various species are brought along on these journeys, intentionally or as hitchhikers. Some of these species establish populations in regions to which they could not have spread without human assistance, and where they are considered to be non indigenous species (NIS). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Broadening the perspective on seafood production: Life cycle thinking and fisheries management

    Författare :Sara Hornborg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LCA; Nephrops; fuel use; Eastern Baltic cod; fisheries management; threatened species; trophic indicators;

    Sammanfattning : Decisions made by fisheries managers strongly influence the overall resource use and environmental impacts associated with the seafood product from capture fisheries. These findings come from Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), a method that aims at quantifying all relevant resource use and environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of a product. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Biological diversity values in semi-natural grasslands : indicators, landscape context and restoration

    Författare :Mathias Öster; Ove Eriksson; Martin Zobel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biodiversity; connectivity; Hygrocybe; indicators; landscape history; plants; pollen limitation; species-area effects; surrogate species; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Semi-natural grasslands, which are a declining and fragmented habitat in Europe, contain a high biodiversity, and are therefore of interest to conservation. This thesis examines how plant diversity is influenced by the landscape context, and how plant and fungal diversity can be targeted by practical conservation using indicator species and congruence between species groups.
