  1. 1. Kön i förändring : Den svenska könsrollsforskningen 1959-1979

    Författare :Jenny-Leontine Olsson; Elisabeth Mansén; Ulla Manns; Elisabeth Elgán; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Sex Role Research; Edmund Dahlström; Harriet Holter; Rita Lijleström; Equality Policy; Nordic Egalitarianism; History of science and ideas; Idé- o lärdomshistoria; idéhistoria; History of Ideas;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis analyzes Swedish sex role research between 1959 and 1979. The focal point of the analysis is how researchers reshaped ideas about sex/gender. This process is put in relation to the political context which affected and was affected by such ideas. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sex differences in immune response and sex hormone receptor expression in healthy individuals and during viral infection

    Författare :Peik M. A. Brundin; Anders F. Johansson; Ivan Nalvarte; Carl-Johan Treutiger; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : There is sex-bias in morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases. Infections kill more men than women and several studies have pointed out differences in the immune system as a reason. The sex hormones estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all shape the effect of the immune response on multiple levels. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in the human body affect many different organs and tissues, some of them have an effect on the human brain and its development. In the developing nervous system, sex differences can bias the number or functionality of neurons, glial cells or synapses. As a result, neural networks might develop with a sex-specific bias. 4. 4. Stroke, Sex and Vascular Receptor Changes in the Brain

    Författare :Hilda Ahnstedt; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; endothelin receptors; Cerebral ischemia; sex; estrogen; progesterone; sex differences; human cerebral arteries; endothelin-1; angiotensin II; middle cerebral artery occlusion; extra-cellular signal regulated kinase 1 and 2;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a severe cerebrovascular disease in which the neuronal tissue and vasculature of the brain undergo ischemia-evoked alterations. We have demonstrated an increased expression of cerebrovascular contractile receptors in the brain. This is hypothesized to mitigate cerebral blood flow and exacerbate tissue damage after stroke. 5. 5. Genomic and Peptidomic Characterization of the Developing Avian Brain

    Författare :Birger Scholz; Lennart Dencker; Eric Vilain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; Sex differentation; Sex determination; Sex chromosomes; Dosage Compensation; Genetic; Chickens; Coturnix; Gene Expression Profiling; Neuropeptides; Diencephalon; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Chicken and Japanese quail are commonly used models in developmental and sex specific neuroendocrine research. There is relatively little known about the mechanisms behind their sex specific brain development, especially regarding the impact of the sex chromosomes (male: ZZ, female ZW) in relation to gonadal hormones.
