Le parler de Senneville-sur-Fécamp

Sammanfattning: This is a study of the dialect of Senneville-sur-Fécamp, a village in Upper Normandy in the region ofCaux. The aim is to provide a description and a comparison of this dialect with standard French.Different speakers have been chosen principally according to the criteria of age, level of educationand sociocultural category. These speakers were interviewed between 1984 and 1997 and the interviews constitute the corpus from which the description of the dialect has been made.The description of the dialect falls into three parts: a phonetic study, a morphosyntactic study anda lexical study. The lexical study also provides the material for a description of village life as these speakers have related it in the interviews.The dissertation shows that dialect features of the language of the oldest speakers are no longer seenamong the youngest speakers. Nevertheless, the dialect of the young differs from standard French inthat features of the surrounding regional dialect of Caux are present.
