  1. 1. Cannabinoids as modulators of cancer cell viability, neuronal differentiation, and embryonal development

    Författare :Sofia Gustafsson; Stig Jacobsson; Birgitta Sander; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cannabinoids; cell viability; neuronal differentiation; colorectal cancer; chick embryo; biokemisk farmakologi; biochemical pharmacology; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cannabinoids (CBs) are compounds that activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB receptors mediate many different physiological functions, and cannabinoids have been reported to decrease tumor cell viability, proliferation, migration, as well as to modulate metastasis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation

    Författare :Cecilia Eriksson Linsmeier; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gtv-a; RCAS A -EGFP; transplantation; cell detection; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; GFP-actin; glial differentiation; neuronal differentiation; neurospheres; glial cultures; bFGF; EGF; cell expansion; cortical primordium; MGE; LGE; CNS; stem- progenitor cells;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 3. 3. Stem Cell Plasticity Controlling Neuronal Differentiation Prior to Cell Transplantation

    Författare :Laurent Roybon; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and affects 2% of the population over 65 years of age. The disease is characterized by the progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons. Over time, symptoms increase and, in particular, lead to a dramatic slowness of movements. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Proteolytic processing of the Alzheimer APP protein family during neuronal differentiation

    Författare :Sofia Holback; Kerstin Iverfeldt; Nigel Hooper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APP; APLP1; APLP2; differentiation; processing; retinoic acid; secretase; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Molecular Neurobiology; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Increased amyloid-β (Aβ) load in the brain, neurite degeneration, neuronal loss, and decreased levels of several neurotrophins are among the characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Generation of Aβ occurs when the amyloid precursor protein (APP) is proteolytically processed by β- and γ-secretases in the amyloidogenic pathway. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neural Stem Cell Differentiation and Migration

    Författare :Anna Erlandsson; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Bengt Westermark; Christer Betsholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; CNS; stem cells; neuron; PDGF; SCF; differentiation; migration; ERK; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Neural stem cells are the precursors of neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. During neural development, the division of stem cells takes place close to the lumen of the neural tube, after which they migrate to their final positions within the central nervous system (CNS).
