  1. 11. Reduced Receivers for Faster-than-Nyquist Signaling and General Linear Channels

    Författare :Adnan Prlja; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Digital data transmission; receivers; decoders; channel modeling; intersymbol interference; ISI; MIMO; Faster-than-Nyquist signaling; complexity reduction; observation models; BCJR algorithm; turbo equalization; iterative detection; channel shortening;

    Sammanfattning : Fast and reliable data transmission together with high bandwidth efficiency are important design aspects in a modern digital communication system. Many different approaches exist but in this thesis bandwidth efficiency is obtained by increasing the data transmission rate with the faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) framework while keeping a fixed power spectral density (PSD). 2. 12. Deficient bodies and divine interventions : women, midwives, and the medicalisation of childbirth - a gender perspective

    Författare :Agneta Westergren; Monica Christianson; Kerstin Edin; Ingela Lundgren; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Birth experiences; birth plan; birth setting; childbirth; cross-sectional study; femininity; feminism; focused ethnography; gender perspective; intrapartum interventions; medicalisation; midwifery; qualitative methods; women; Barnmorska; feminism; förlossning; förlossningsplan; förlossningsupplevelse; förlossningsvård; genuskonstruktion; genusperspektiv; intervention; kvalitativ metod; kvinna; medikalisering; observation; tvärsnittsstudie;

    Sammanfattning : Background In Sweden, one of the safest countries to give birth and to be born in, there is a trend towards increasing interventions during childbirth, and fewer women than ever give birth without having their labours induced or augmented, epidural analgesia, or caesarean section. While interventions at times are vital for a safe birth, there is a growing body of evidence demonstrating that an overuse of medical and technological interventions may have adverse effects on woman and child. 3. 13. Probabilistic Programming for Birth-Death Models of Evolution

    Författare :Jan Kudlicka; Johannes Borgström; Thomas B. Schön; Lawrence M. Murray; Bret Larget; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; probabilistic programming; birth-death models; statistical phylogenetics; particle filters; sequential Monte Carlo SMC ; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Phylogenetic birth-death models constitute a family of generative models of evolution. In these models an evolutionary process starts with a single species at a certain time in the past, and the speciations—splitting one species into two descendant species—and extinctions are modeled as events of non-homogenous Poisson processes. 4. 14. Dissolved organic carbon in tropical watersheds : Linking field observation and eco-hydrological modelling

    Författare :Fabien Rizinjirabake; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dissolved organic carbon DOC ; Rwanda; Land use land cover variability; Climate variability and change; Rukarara River Watershed; eco-hydrological modelling; field observation;

    Sammanfattning : Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a general description of the organic material dissolved in water. DOC is an important source of energy, carbon, and nutrient transfers from terrestrial to aquatic ecosystems. The export of DOC into aquatic ecosystems may contribute to the carbon balance of terrestrial ecosystems and to water degradation. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Shared Gaussian Process Latent Variable Models

    Författare :Carl Henrik Ek; Oxford Brookes University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : A fundamental task in machine learning is modeling the relationship between different observation spaces. Dimensionality reduction is the task of reducing thenumber of dimensions in a parameterization of a data-set. In this thesis we areinterested in the cross-road between these two tasks: shared dimensionality reduction. LÄS MER
