6. Direct and endothelium-linked serotonergic control of vascular tone in human uterine and umbilical arteries
Sammanfattning : The serotonergic vascular control was investigated by in vitro pharmacology in the human uterine and umbilical arteries. The localisation of immunoreactive (IR) neuropeptide Y (NPY) and the influence of NPY on the adrenergic vascular effects in the human uterine artery were also studied. LÄS MER
7. Life-charting patients with treatment-refractory affective disorder
Sammanfattning : Introduction:In treatment-refractory affective illness there are several hypothesis to suggest alterations in the neurobiological systems in relation to illness course. The underlying mechanisms have been scantily investigated. LÄS MER
8. Development of central catecholaminergic neuronal systems in the lizard Anolis sagrei
Sammanfattning : Catecholamines, comprising the neurotransmitters dopamine (DA), noradrenaline (NA) and adrenaline (A) are synthesized by specific enzymes (tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), dopamine ß-hydroxylase (DBH), phenylethanolamine-N-methyltransferase (PNMT)) in the central nervous system. The development and distribution of different catecholaminergic systems have been described in both the brain and retina of the lizard Anolis sagrei. LÄS MER
9. Origin, release and functional significance of the novel gastric hormone ghrelin
Sammanfattning : The novel gastric hormone ghrelin was discovered by virtue of its ability to release growth hormone (GH) via interaction with the so-called GH-secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). Earlier only synthetic agents were known to bind with the GHS-R, hence, ghrelin is the first identified endogenous ligand. LÄS MER
10. Molecular genetic studies on cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites in psychotic patients and healthy individuals
Sammanfattning : Dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline are the major monoamines in the human central nervous system (CNS) and following their basic pathways they are degraded to their major metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), respectively. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of the three monoamine metabolites (MM) are considered to reflect the monoamine turnover rates in the CNS, are under genetic influence and have been associated with schizophrenia.
