  1. 1. Ghrelin and CART. Two new islet peptides. Expression, regulation and function

    Författare :Nils Wierup; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; histology; endocrinology; islets; CART; Ghrelin cells; insulin secretion; type-2 diabetes; Ghrelin;

    Sammanfattning : Until recently, the islets of Langerhans were thought to harbour four main cell types characterised with respect to principal hormone product. Here we show that the novel hormone ghrelin is expressed in a fifth islet cell type, the islet ghrelin cell, in humans and rodents. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Characterization of Endocrine Cells and Tumours in the Stomach

    Författare :Apostolos V. Tsolakis; Eva T. Janson; Mats Stridsberg; Guida M. Portela-Gomes; Ola Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Enterochromaffin-like (ECL) and ghrelin cells, in the human gastric mucosa and in gastric endocrine tumours (GETs), were subclassified with respect to immunohistochemical reaction vs. vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT-2), ghrelin/obestatin, and histidine decarboxylase (HDC). 3. 3. Origin, release and functional significance of the novel gastric hormone ghrelin

    Författare :Charlotta Dornonville de la Cour; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; toxicology; Farmakologi; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; Pharmacological sciences; bone metabolism; energy homeostasis; glucagon; insulin; secretion; pancreastatin; somatostatin; histamine; gastrin; gastric acid secretion; ghrelin; gastric motility; A-like cells; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The novel gastric hormone ghrelin was discovered by virtue of its ability to release growth hormone (GH) via interaction with the so-called GH-secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). Earlier only synthetic agents were known to bind with the GHS-R, hence, ghrelin is the first identified endogenous ligand. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ghrelin in feeding: new insights into its role and the neurocircuits involved

    Författare :Marie Le May; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ghrelin; feeding; supramammillary nucleus; parabrachial nucleus;

    Sammanfattning : Appetite, originally evolved to ensure we consume enough of diverse nutrients to survive famines, has lost its survival advantage in our modern society, where food is plentiful. The hedonic aspect of appetite can indeed induce over-consumption of food, a major cause for the obesity pandemic. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Expression of Neuroendocrine Markers in Normal and Neoplastic Tissue with an Emphasis on Ghrelin and Obestatin

    Författare :Malin Grönberg; Eva Tiensuu Janson; Apostolos Tsolakis; Jan Saras; Mauro Papotti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ghrelin; obestatin; neuroendocrine marker; immunohistochemistry; neuroendocrine tumors; breast cancer; mammary glands; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to characterize the expression of the peptides ghrelin and obestatin, as well as other neuroendocrine markers in human normal tissues, in invasive breast cancer and a wide panel of neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). In normal tissues the expression of ghrelin and obestatin was mainly localized to the gastric mucosa, and in lesser extent in the remaining gastrointestinal tract, endocrine pancreas and mammary glands.
