  1. 1. Signal Transduction of Glucagon Secretion

    Författare :Elaine Vieira; Erik Gylfe; Lena Eliasson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; secretion; glucagon; store-operated channels; calcium; diabetes; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes mellitus is a bihormonal disorder with hyperglycemia due to deficiency of insulin and hypersecretion of glucagon. To improve diabetes treatment it is important to clarify the signal transduction of glucagon secretion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Impaired Glucose Tolerance in Childhood Obesity : Contribution of Glucagon, GLP-1 and Inflammation

    Författare :Hannes Manell; Peter Bergsten; Anders Forslund; Jens Juul Holst; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : In the wake of increased obesity prevalence, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in childhood and adolescence is increasingly common. Given the negative impacts these conditions have on health over time, understanding the pathophysiology in those affected early in life is important. LÄS MER

  3. 3. α-Cell signalling in glucose-regulated glucagon secretion

    Författare :Qian Yu; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Sebastian Barg; David W Piston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islets; glucagon; insulin; somatostatin; ATP; cAMP; Ca2 ; GHB; oscillations; α-cell; β-cell; δ-cell; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Glucagon is a blood glucose-elevating hormone released from α-cells in the islets of Langerhans during hypoglycaemia. Glucagon is critical for glucose homeostasis and inappropriate regulation of its secretion underlies both impaired counter-regulation of hypoglycaemia and chronic hyperglycaemia in diabetes patients. 4. 4. Oscillatory Ca2+ signaling in glucose-stimulated murine pancreatic β-cells : Modulation by amino acids, glucagon, caffeine and ryanodine

    Författare :Meftun Ahmed; Per Lindström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; pancreatic β-cells; islets of Langerhans; glucose; Ca2 oscillations; Ca2 transients; potassium; ryanodine; caffeine; glucagon; cAMP; inositol 1; 4; 5-trisphosphate; fura-2; glycine; alanine; arginine; Ca2 channels; rats; lean mice; ob ob mice; leptin; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Oscillations in cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) is the key signal in glucose-stimulated β-cells governing pulsatile insulin release. The glucose response of mouse β-cells is often manifested as slow oscillations and rapid transients of [Ca2+] i. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Novel insights into the regulation of insulin secretion by GLP-1, GIP and glucagon

    Författare :Linda Ahlkvist; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Vagus nerve; GPR119; Insulin resistance; Glucagon; GIP; GLP-1; Insulin;

    Sammanfattning : There are many contributing factors to the development of type 2 diabetes, however, failure of beta-cells to sufficiently secrete insulin is the key component. The underlying mechanism of beta-cell failure is not fully established. In this thesis, we examined the role of high glucagon levels, i.e. LÄS MER
