31. Prognostic Factors for Death in Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumours
Sammanfattning : Tumours in the small intestine are rare compared to those in other gastrointestinal organs. Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours (SI-NETs) are the most common small bowel tumours with an annual incidence of 0.3-1.7 per 100 000 persons. LÄS MER
32. Mapping the human proteome using bioinformatic methods
Sammanfattning : The fundamental goal of proteomics is to gain an understanding of the expression and function of the proteome on the level of individual proteins, on the level of defined cell types and on the level of the entire organism. In this thesis, the human proteome is explored using membrane protein topology prediction methods to define the human membrane proteome and by global protein expression profiling, which relies on a complex study of the location and expression levels of proteins in tissues and cells. 33. Vascular endothelial growth factor in renal cell carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Background. Angiogenesis is essential for tumour growth. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its isoforms were investigated in relation to the clinical course in a large number of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Methods. LÄS MER
34. Angiogenesis in human renal cell carcinoma : hypoxia, vascularity and prognosis
Sammanfattning : Background: Angiogenesis is recognised as a critical step in tumour progression. The angiogenic switch is activated by various trigger signals, such as hypoxia, low pH, and genetic mutations. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is often an aggressive tumour, and advanced disease has limited treatment options and bad prognosis. LÄS MER
35. Distribution and function of TRP ion channels in primary sensory neurons
Sammanfattning : It is frequently argued that cannabinoids exert part of their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects via activation of the cannabinoid CB1 receptor located on TRPV1-expressing primary sensory nerve fibres in peripheral tissues. However, we find no evidence of CB1 receptor immunoreactivity on nerve fibres in rat or mouse hindpaw skin and mesenteric artery. LÄS MER
